Need a Halloween costume but don’t have the time or money to buy something new?
Here are some last minute costumes you can make with your old dance gear!
1. Olympic Athlete
Use some of your old medals or trophies as props to look the part of an Olympic athlete! You’ve already got the muscle and heart, so grab a leotard or swimsuit and your dance warmups to create the perfect podium look.
2. Rocky Balboa
Heading to the party straight from practice? Hard-earned sweat will only enhance this look! Be comfy in your post-practice clothes with baggy sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and your sneakers. Bonus points if you can borrow one of the boys’ belts!
3. Anything covered in glitter…
A mermaid, a unicorn, or even an alien. Use the eyeshadow that matched your old dress which is not being used anymore to create a base. (You can use fishnets as a stencil if you’re going for the mermaid look.) Top it off with a LOT of glitter, which will stick to you with sock glue!
Well, a poodle preferably! To make dog ears use poodle socks and attach them to a headband. With the feet hanging in the air, you’ll look just like your socks’ namesake! You can even use your teasing comb to make your hair really look like a poodle!
5. 80s Workout Outfit
Everyone recognizes the zany workout clothes of the 80s; luckily Irish dance gear is just as colorful! Wear your kickpants over your brightest pair of leggings, and add poodle socks on top to simulate leg warmers. Add an oversized sweatshirt in a contrasting color and throw on your trainers! Be sure to use your teasing comb to really get that pony nice and big too!
Oireachtas season is coming up, and sometimes we focus on our training so much that we forget that taking some time for ourselves is important too. With these dance-friendly costume ideas, you’ll be able to trick or treat or attend a party without having to stress about what you’re going to wear.
